Vellum Tutorial by

Harvey Ettinger

STEP 7:

Now I’m ready to add my dark values to the drawing. I do this slowly. Sometimes I start with 80% black and build up layers and then go to 100% black. If you notice on this sketch my drama is in the front like the orange and fades as I go back to the rear of the car.

Now I flip the paper back over and add grill and scoop areas that I missed the first time. Vellum allows you to create so many different values of color using one marker and again practice is the key.

When I flip the page back I’m basically done with the markers for now. To get this look I only used three markers:

Orange prismacolor

80% grey

100% black

Next Week we will get into using chalk and creating the flop on the surface that will make your hand drawn sketch better then any computer rendered work any day..

This is what I want to see from all of you on Friday.

Harv's Tip of the day: Don’t be afraid to make a mistake. Try things and try to learn every time you pick up a marker.
