Photoshop Tutorial by Jorg Filipiak

Step 1
At first, decide what kind of perspective you want to use.
You can use a scanned sketch as underlay by setting its layer to multiply.

In this case, I didn’t use a sketch; I like to use the path-tool for “sketching”,
So I’ve full control of every curve and can bend every line until I’m satisfied with its shape and position.

Create a new layer for every part of your design, so you can easily change parameters.
Use “path-tool/ create selection“ to create some basic shapes that describe the character of your design and fill it with a color (I prefer neutral gray, because its easier to judge shading).

Step 2
Continue detailing your design by using the “path-tool/ create selection” described above.
I added an Air-intake behind the door and gave the front-grille some “teeth”…
Also I decided where the reflection on the side surface might be situated (dark gray area)
Step 3
After that I added an indication of seats and the greenhouse and set its layer-transparency to 65-80%
Step 4

Now I was satisfied with my basic shapes and was able to continue with some details to get more photo-realistic.
A very important thing at car design are the wheels, egg-shaped wheels will make your car look improbably. Pay a lot of attention to that fact!
I’ve done the wheels that I added in Alias before and rendered them in a perspective that matches my drawing to save time and nerves. Also I added some BMW Headlights I cut out of a Picture and scaled and distorted them to fit. You can do the same with wheels if you don’t want to create your own ones.
