Start with a ground line/shadow and layout your wheelbase. My wheelbase is about 2.5 tires distances between the vehicles tires. I draw the bottom line of the car, the shoulder line from the top of the front tire and rake upward towards the rear. The bottom and top lines of side side glass. You usually want a nice 1/3 ratio, the glass is 1/3 the size of the door panel.

I then sketch out the outline of the car. Remember to give the car front and rear over hang and the roof is taller than the side glass.

Continue to sketch vehicle detail. Don't forget the corners of the car.

My finished side view sketch.

My first shading is the ground tones.

Create a crisp clean horizon reflection and begin to add more reflections. Also I darken the front and rear of the car to the corners. This makes the car look like it has short overhangs, but is still realistic.

More work on the reflections and the first bit of sky tones. Again I darken the roof above the side glass to make the roof look lower.

Wheels and tires. Don't forget the far side tires are seen under the car do to perspective.

A splash of color a few more details, interior, some high lights, some sketched white lines.....done.

Oh boy! Newbie, that's me! how cool Jamie.

I am taking all of this info into account and started to work on proportions of my wagon/crossover. I really like the rear of your design here. Thanks for the beautiful render here!
